General Physiotherapy Services

Physiotherapy is a cornerstone treatment for taking care of the body with non-invasive treatments. It helps in the recovery of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions. For our general physiotherapy services, we offer support for:

Orthopedic Conditions

We can treat everything from sprains, strains, to complex joint injuries through targeted physiotherapy treatment for acute or chronic orthopedic concerns. Our approach combines manual therapy techniques, exercise prescription, and movement retraining for long-term recovery and recurrence protection.

Post-Surgical Rehabilitation

One of the most common times one needs physiotherapy is after a major surgery to aid in rehabilitation and recovery. Our post-operative rehabilitation treatments are designed to restore strength, mobility, and function to the affected areas. Most commonly, these are for joint replacements, ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repairs, and spinal surgeries. We work closely with your doctors for an optimal recovery procedure.

Chronic Pain Management

One area managed well by physiotherapy is chronic pain. While we still don't always know why chronic pain occurs, pain science has made many strides, and there have been many techniques discovered to help with pain management. These techniques can help to reduce symptoms when implemented with practical strategies, graded exercise programs, and self-management techniques.

Concussion Management

A traumatic brain injury can be seriously damaging to one's long-term health, but some level of management and recovery can be done from the start to help decrease this damage and heal some functions. Our advanced training in concussion management allows a patient to address symptoms like headaches, dizziness, balance impairment, and cognitive difficulties.

Movement Dysfunction

Another common symptom is poor movement patterns, developed over years or from a surgery or traumatic event. These can lead to decreased performance and increased risk of injuries. Through movement analysis, we can help to identify patterns and slowly correct them for long-term recovery.

Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy: Specialized Care for Complex Concerns

Expert Assessment and Treatment for Pelvic Health

Pelvic floor dysfunction affects millions of people, and yet is a highly unaddressed issue. This might be due to embarrassment or the misconception that it is simply part of aging. However, much can be done to help conditions such as urinary incontinence, pelvic pain, and sexual dysfunction through physiotherapy.

We know how sensitive of an area of concern this is, and have worked to make our treatments as private and considerate as possible. All pelvic floor sessions are conducted in private treatment rooms, and we prioritize patient comfort and informed consent at every stage.

Understanding the Pelvic Floor

The pelvic floor consists of the whole complex network of muscles, ligaments, and other connective tissues around the base of the pelvis. These structures form the main mechanisms by which you have:

  • Bladder and bowel control
  • Sexual function control and sensation
  • Core stability and posture support
  • And play a role in organ support and circulation

When these muscles dysfunction, whether by weakening or getting too tight, a range of symptoms can develop that can form major impediments to everyday life.

Conditions We Treat

Urinary Dysfunction: Stress incontinence, urge incontinence, mixed incontinence, urinary frequency, and incomplete bladder emptying all tend to respond well to treatment. Our specific methods include targeted muscle training, lifestyle modifications, and advice on behavioral strategies.

Bowel Dysfunction: Typical bowel dysfunction includes incontinence, chronic constipation, or difficulty evacuating, each of which are often linked to pelvic floor muscle dysfunctions. To find out whether this is the case, we can assess the situation to identify the problem and decide from there the most effective treatment strategies.

Pelvic Pain Syndromes: Chronic pain in the pelvis, vulvodynia, vaginismus, painful intercourse, pudendal neuralgia, are each types of pelvic pain that can be helped by specialized physiotherapy sessions. Our methods allow us to address muscle tension, trigger points, nerve sensitivity, and other contributing factors through specific manual therapy and relaxation techniques.

Prenatal and Postpartum Care: Before and after childbirth, the pelvic floor undergoes extraordinary change and stress. We have extensive experience with these situations and a thorough understanding of how the body prepares for labor and delivery. We offer rehabilitation for diastasis recti, perineal healing, scar tissue management, and restoration of pelvic floor functioning.

Pelvic Organ Prolapse: Some individuals can experience a prolapse of the rectum, bladder, or uterus. This can cause significant discomfort and functional limitations, but can usually be helped by pelvic floor physiotherapy techniques that strengthen supporting structures, reduce symptoms, and help prevent further progression.

What to Expect During Treatment

We always begin with a comprehensive assessment, including detailed health history, in order to specifically design your personalized treatment. When appropriate, we will also do an examination to evaluate muscle functions, tone, and coordination. We understand that for pelvic floor treatment, this can be very sensitive and therefore we prioritize comfort and informed consent throughout the process.

Once evaluated, treatment may include:

Manual Therapy: Internal and external massage-like techniques to release tight muscles, mobilize scar tissue, and restore normal tissue mobility.

Pelvic Floor Muscle Training: Specialized and individually-tailored exercise programs that target the strength, endurance, coordination, and relaxation of the pelvic region based on specific needs.

Biofeedback: The use of biofeedback technology to help improve awareness and voluntary control of the pelvic floor muscles. Safe and non-invasive.

Behavioral Strategies: Bladder retraining, dietary modifications, and lifestyle recommendations tailored to your condition.

Patient Education: Understanding your anatomy and condition to help you actively participate in your own recovery and maintain long-term results.
